Yoga is a holistic approach to health promotion that focuses on the interconnectedness of the body, mind, and spirit. It is a wonderful form of exercise for children to build their physical core strength and flexibility, to practice useful relaxation techniques, and to enhance their emotional self-regulation.
Research shows that yoga and mindfulness help improve both physical and mental health in school-age children. The physical benefits of yoga are often most apparent – yoga improves balance, strength, endurance, and aerobic capacity in children. Moreover, yoga also offers psychological benefits for children: it can improve focus, resilience, memory, self-esteem, academic performance, and classroom behaviour, and can even reduce anxiety and stress in children.
