Educators who practice yoga say it has given them an outlet for their daily stresses and frustrations at school, and helps them cope with the physical demands of the job.

Research suggests that providing educators with skills and practices to enhance their own self-care is a crucial step toward improving the school climate, the effectiveness of education, and overall student outcomes. Among the beneficial effects of yoga for educators, enhanced physical well-being and overall health are most frequently quoted. Moreover, yoga is found to increase calmness, stress-resistance, well-being, creativity, and positive mood; it lowers anxiety, physical tension and emotional reactivity. In turn, this can lead to improvements in workplace relationships, classroom management, and student engagement.

In short, yoga promotes educators’ physical and mental health, resilience, and effectiveness, leading to improvements in students’ behaviour, state of mind, and performance.
